Shaun Hegarty from Fox Toledo reports…
I’ll update more later.
The
Media coverage on tonight’s council meeting…
Toledo City Council August 26, Bioterrorism and Dillin says project will be dead if financials made public
I’m sitting here waiting for the Toledo City Council meeting to come on and instead it’s some infomercial for “Garden Groom” which struck me as funny and then I started thinking about “Swamp Thing” kind of a mix of plants and bioterrorism…We do live in the Black Swamp area and one item on the agenda deals with bi
Several stories…Seems like the same old dance…and Lucas County unemployment 9.2%
A few stories caught my eye that I wanted to point out. First, did you think that with the welcome mat not being out for lobbyists that the Democratic National Convention would be different this time?
State’s hired guns stall mediation hearing related to what we called “PajamaGate”
What happened to Cindy Stankoski and Vanessa Stout was enough to end up with Marc Dann stepping down as Attorney General. Yet, apparently discussing how much money should be awarded to the two for what they went through has been delayed.
The arena and naming rights - let’s flash back shall we?
While it’s stated in the Blade article that:
Mr. Napoli and Mr. Chema wouldn’t say how much they were asking for naming rights, but because the stadium will be open year-round and will host other events besides sports, they are expecting much more than the $5 million that Fifth Third Bank paid to sponsor the Mud Hens’ home.
When do sexual affairs matter and does who is pointing the finger matter too?
The recent Jim Hartung story as broken by the Toledo Free Press once again brings us back to some of the very same questions we dealt with during the formerly dubbed “Pajama Gate” scandal revolving around Marc Dann and the continual question of selectivity as to who’s past matters and who gets a free skate.
Marina District will start out with rentals rather than units for sale…
If you watched Fox Toledo tonight then you saw Shaun Hegarty’s piece on the Marina District, the legislation that Councilman Frank Szollosi presented related to requiring local union work only is going to be referred to the full Council without recommendation, which means Council will not approve it. This quote might have gotten your attention stated by Larry Dillin:
Well pajama-gate followers…it doesn’t appear to be over…
Reaction to Szollosi legislation on Marina District beginning and more on Council actions
Some are calling Toledo Councilman Frank Szollosi’s proposed legislation a “deal killer” that would require workers hired for the Marina project to be from local unions. Fox Toledo reporter Shaun Hegarty was at the earlier Toledo City Council meeting. The letter the Mayor wrote to Council is on their website.

Marina Project, “more risk and debt”
The Marina District financing has become even more complicated with the blame being levied at the Toledo Public School System for not wanting to agree with the proposals that have been presented by the administration thus far. In reading today’s Blade questions come to mind on this. It’s been previously reported that the TPS share of the tax dollars with no abatement would be 25 million dollars over the course of 15 years.
The Arena “unveiling” this morning…
The Blade has an article previewing part of what was expected this morning at the public presentation of the Arena design held at Seagate Convention Centre this morning.
So basically, if Lee Fisher wants the job he’ll get it?
That’s the impression that I was left with in reading today’s Blade:
The governor would not divulge who is on his list but said he would find it difficult not to appoint Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher if he wanted the job. Fisher also serves as development director, and Strickland says he expects him to remain in his current positions.
Dann says, “let’s make a deal” or maybe not…
Seems earlier reports of his resignation could prove to not be quite that fast, Dann apparently seeks deal to quit:
Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann apparently is trying to negotiate the terms of his resignation, offering to quit in exchange for legislative leaders killing a bill that would authorize Inspector General Thomas P. Charles to investigate the scandal in Dann’s office.

Article of Impeachment filed against Marc Dann
As a breaking news update from the Blade, Articles of impeachment filed against Dann by fellow Democrats:
COLUMBUS — House Democrats Tuesday accused Attorney General Marc Dann, a fellow Democrat, of ‘malfeasance” and ‘gross neglect of duty” in a resolution seeking their fellow Democrat’s impeachment.

Dann will not go quietly into that good night…
First the calls for Dann to resign, from not only most of the editorial pages of most of Ohio’s newspapers but the Governor and other State office holders calling for Dann to resign or to face impeachment.
Commissioners to hold news conference to showcase Arena
This in from the offices of the Lucas County Commissioners:
COMMISSIONERS, TEAM SHOWCASE ARENA “RISING FROM THE GROUND”
The Board of Lucas County Commissioners and members of the Arena team will hold a news conference to showcase the Arena “rising from the ground” on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. on the Madison Ave. side of the construction site.
Downtown and Smoking Ban…
Two articles that I wanted to point out written in today’s Blade, Downtown falls short of expectations where one quote in particular really caught my attention due to the recent discussions on creating mixed income residential areas in the City of Toledo:
Not a gold star day yesterday in Lucas County politics…
This in via email from the office of Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop:
No Perfect Attendance Awards in Lucas County Politics Tuesday
LCIC cancels meeting and Commissioners vote on 14 million dollar contracts shorthanded
Woody Allen once famously remarked that “90 percent of success is just showing up.” By that standard it was not a banner day for politics in Lucas County. Both Tuesday’s LCIC Executive Committee meeting and Commissioners meeting were plagued by attendance lapses.
Toledo Free Press - Meta-Planning, Blog it! & Peckerheads!
The cover story for this week’s Toledo Free Press is on something called Meta-Planning where there is in addition to that cover story a whole section on Meta-Planning with several noteworthy articles including one from Governor Strickland.
