While this week’s This Strikes Us in the Sojourner’s Truth makes it clear they don’t agree with all of the positions taken by Rev. Rick Warren; the editorial shares their reasons why they applaud it:
I wonder
The Truth: Applauding selection of Rick Warren & the loss of a loved one…
The Blade’s Noe fascination continues…things I wonder…
What I found most interesting in the latest front page focus on the Noe family is what is alluded to but not really put out there. The woman the Blade spent a good deal of time interviewing, Lisa Whitehead, appears to be the very same Ms. Whitehead that is involved in the contesting of the will that Bernadette Noe has a minor role in, which is never really clearly stated but implied towards the end of the article:
Lucas County and the State of Israel bond investment…
Those of you who follow my obsession for details and wanting to know more, might be interested in what I learned once I finally sought information on why Lucas County had the State of Israel listed as a a part of their investment portfolio. At one point in time several years ago, this could never have happened, as the Cleveland Jewish News reported on 10-17-2003 as a web snippet:
Ohio’s pro-Israel lobby has helped pushed a bill through the Ohio House that will encourage more investment in Israel.
What impact will Rec Center decision have on Lucas County Fair?
It was disappointing to read that the Rec Center hall rentals could stop in Maumee because the County does not have enough money to make the needed repairs to the Great Hall.
History repeats itself, Pete Culp termination raises questions…
It’s rather ironic that recently there has been a look back at the year 1988, as pointed out in last week’s Toledo City Paper:
According to reports in The Blade, then City Manager Philip Hawkey fired Pete Culp and demoted L. Michael Duckworth from director of the department after releasing a report that detailed alleged irregularities…
3,536% fee increase okay with General Assembly and Governor…Updated!
What’s most surprising is that no one has mentioned this until now, Higher truck fees threaten Toledo port:
ODOT - seeing its gasoline tax revenues declining dramatically as people travel less and drive more fuel-efficient vehicles - has set its sights on large trucks to make up part of the shortfall.
Secret Service says “Kill him” allegation unfounded yet myth continues
Considering the amount of attention the allegation that someone at a McCain/Palin rally yelled “Kill him” in reference to Obama created in the media and the blogosphere, you’d think that reports from Secret Service including interviewing other people who were there, uncovering that there is no evidence that was true would also get media attention, but it’s not. Only a few media outlets are reporting:
Husband and three adult children want feeding tube removed, sister and mother do not…
In a case that is being described as similar to Terri Schiavo, but with a Toledo connection, Karen Weber a former resident of Toledo is in a nursing home in Florida. She has been in one since December after a stroke, it does not appear she can live without the feeding tube. A temporary restraining order was in place in March to prevent the feeding tube from being removed. Karen Weber’s husband Raymond and their three adult children are in support of Raymond Weber being appointed permanent guardian and in support of having the feeding tube removed.
Then we ask why…as we try to make sense of another senseless death…
I appear most times here to be calm, cool, collected, with a hint of emotion that wells up from time to time on an issue I am particularly passionate about. When it comes to blogging about victims, it’s much more difficult to do than the end result here demonstrates, in 2006 the story of Tammy Capelletty made me realize that there are victims out there who need to be blogged about. More than just to create discussion but for families like her family who were trying to clear her name, to make sure it was known that she was a victim, a victim of a senseless murder.
Economic Development debate continues and Blade wants investigative report on Hartung
Who’s to blame for things in NWO and Toledo not going the way we believe they should, and who deserves credit for the things that have gone right. That’s the underlying issue hinted at in today’s Blade article, Leaders in Toledo-area pushing forward on economic development.
What do you love about the US and where you live?
Troy Neff as a part of his show today was asking people to reflect on why we should love/be proud of our Country and were we live as a City. Tom sent me an email the other day about the Fourth of July (thank you Tom!) that also made me think about the history of our nation and while things may not be as we’d like them to be, we do have quite a bit to be proud of.
