Rep. Ujvagi and Senator Wagoner media releases on State Approval of Job Creating Support
I received emails from the offices of Representative Peter Ujvagi and Senator Mark Wagoner today on the approval from the State Controlling Board. Rep. Ujvagi’s came in first so it is listed first, Senator Wagoner’s follows, while each contains information related to HRC Manor Care, each shares a different second local business. The decision to combine was based on the fact that both releases relate to funds from the State Controlling Board.
Rep. Ujvagi Announces State Approval of Job-Creating Support
The key word in NWO is “Token Opposition”
Tom Troy could have extended his label of Most incumbents in region facing token opposition to more than Kaptur, Latta and Jordan, which makes for an election season here that’s been unlike any other that I’ve covered since the blog began.

Sears & Dunn’s House District 46 race gets Blade coverage
It’s part of a larger piece on the Democratic plan to try to win a majority in the Ohio House, but some of the coverage in the Blade focuses on the Sears versus Dunn match up:

GCJ might not be in Denver but…
You will notice on your side bar to the right that there is a new feature, it was provided to be able to share some of the thoughts on the convention by current Ohio Treasurer Rich Cordray who is also running for Attorney General. The audio blogging is also on his website but I asked for and was given an embed code to put it here on GCJ.

Children yelled out window for help for 7 hours before police came…
Stories like this one as reported by WTVG from Bowling Green, really make you think. Three young children aged four, three, and one start yelling out of the window for help at around 8:30 a.m. according to neighbors. Yet, apparently none of them called the police until late in the afternoon, police arrived at 3:30 p.m.:
The day Corn Hole came to Toledo…
Okay, technically not Toledo since the Corn Hole Tournament was in Rossford at the IBEW Union Hall, but today was Governor Strickland’s Toledo Division of the Corn Hole Tournament.
Last chance to be one of Ted’s Cornholers NWO…
Okay Northwestern Ohio, it’s here! Reminder notice for the big Cornholing event tomorrow in via email:
The Strickland for Governor Campaign is hosting a Corn Hole Tournament this Saturday, August 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the I.B.E.W. Union Hall in Rossford (just south of Toledo).
United Way to build new downtown location
If you head over and look at the cover of this week’s Toledo Free Press, you’ll get an idea of what will replace the current One Stranahan Square structure. In a decision that many have faced, renovate or build new, the United Way has opted to demolish and rebuild since their current and future needs do not require a building of the same size.
McCain’s NWO visiting…
Fox Toledo has a written story and three videos from Lima, Ohio. It appears that Fox Toledo was the only station that had someone in Lima.
NBC24 reports on the McCain visit to Marion, Ohio.
WTOL has coverage including the story of an Ohio resident who had one of McCain’s POW bracelets.
Chavalia case goes to Jury
According to LimaOhio.com the jury is deliberating in the case of Sgt. Joe Chavalia. Did the prosecution present a strong enough case or did the defense? It’s now in the hands of the jury to decide.
The website has video of some of the testimony in the trial for those of you who are interested in more detail than has been reported in the local media.

Beginning the discussion on Columbia Gas…
Last week I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Jack Partridge, President, Columbia Gas of Ohio and Chris Kozak, the Communications and Communications Manager of Columbia Gas.
Economic Development debate continues and Blade wants investigative report on Hartung
Who’s to blame for things in NWO and Toledo not going the way we believe they should, and who deserves credit for the things that have gone right. That’s the underlying issue hinted at in today’s Blade article, Leaders in Toledo-area pushing forward on economic development.
The OSU ticket scandal….
Are some elected officials taking advantage of the “perks” of office? That seems to be one of the questions being asked in the aftermath of the John Widowfield story. Ben Keeler at The Point has the story and for even more information, there are a series of articles at the Akron Beacon Journal that take an in depth look.
On the topic of kids, Toledo City Paper’s Classroom Cops 101
While the below post focuses on Rossford and their decision to create a curfew, last week’s Toledo City Paper (that’s still online) has a cover story on Classroom Cops 101. The article shares the stats of the number of offenses for each of the area High Schools except Springfield which for some reason is not included. I recommend reading it, it sheds some light on some of the problems schools are experiencing in Toledo and outside of Toledo.
Rossford City Council considers a curfew…
Curiousity made me head over to the City of Rossford’s City Council website after reading this Blade article, Rossford mulls curfew modeled after Toledo’s where it states:
After hearing from residents at last week’s City Council safety committee meeting, members requested an ordinance to be presented at tonight’s council meeting.
WSPD & Brian McMahon’s intermodal presentation.
I had previously seen the slide show thanks to WSPD giving it to Chris Myers who shared it on SwampBubbles but tonight was the first time that I heard the actual presentation that was made with the slides.
The Mayor on intermodal and more…
Today on Troy Neff the Mayor talks about his belief on the topic of intermodal and WSPD.
He states the focus should be more on alternative energy and we are the solar energy capital of the US rather than concentrating on intermodal especially with energy prices. I recommend listening to the interview which also references a Blade article from today and several other recent articles.
