Lessenberry addresses why Toledo Blade dropped article commentary…

Not long ago when the Toledo Blade allowed comments on articles, I wondered to myself how long it would be allowed to continue without some type of moderation, because to be honest, some of those who commented there made some of the really insulting comments made here that I let stand seem like compliments. In Sunday’s column by Jack Lessenberry, it addresses in part why the ability to comment was removed:

The Blade’s Noe fascination continues…things I wonder…

What I found most interesting in the latest front page focus on the Noe family is what is alluded to but not really put out there. The woman the Blade spent a good deal of time interviewing, Lisa Whitehead, appears to be the very same Ms. Whitehead that is involved in the contesting of the will that Bernadette Noe has a minor role in, which is never really clearly stated but implied towards the end of the article:

Why McNamara went for immediate consideration…

Back on November 18th, Toledo City Councilman Joe McNamara held a press conference related to his proposal concerning the division of funding for the 3/4% income tax. It was cleared by the Law Department prior to his announcing it that day and his sharing of that information with his fellow members of Council. On December 1st he asked Council President Mark Sobczak to put this legislation on the Council Agenda for December 16th.

So, the latest person that some are pushing to become the Democratic version of “Joe the Plumber” is…Sean Powless who I am happy to report IS a registered voter.

Secret Service says “Kill him” allegation unfounded yet myth continues

Considering the amount of attention the allegation that someone at a McCain/Palin rally yelled “Kill him” in reference to Obama created in the media and the blogosphere, you’d think that reports from Secret Service including interviewing other people who were there, uncovering that there is no evidence that was true would also get media attention, but it’s not. Only a few media outlets are reporting:

Jon Stainbrook gets some love from the Blade but…on the set of Conklin & Company….

The Blade loves Jon Stainbrook and while that was in today’s paper? Troy Neff experiences the other side of Jon:

When America gets a cold, African-Americans get pneumonia

The title is a quote from this article in the Toledo Journal about some of the items that will be discussed at the “State of the Black World Conference” that is scheduled to be held in New Orleans after the election in November. I recommend reading the complete article, what I thought was noteworthy is the acknowledgment that even if Obama wins in November, Dr. Ron Daniels said:

Michael Young’s letter to the editor creates some pondering…

I was glancing at the Letters to the Editor section in the Blade and after the requisite political attacking noticed a letter written by a Michael Young of San Diego with an editorial comment that Mr. Young was a former City Planner. He takes issue with the United Way tearing down their old building and made some accusations at Bill Kitson.

Some media raising the question of Biden’s son…

I received this from a regular reader, it’s an editorial from the Providence Journal that raises the issue of the lack of discussion related to Biden’s son Hunter and his lobbyist connections. While I recommend reading the article in full, the last two paragraphs:

Husband and three adult children want feeding tube removed, sister and mother do not…

In a case that is being described as similar to Terri Schiavo, but with a Toledo connection, Karen Weber a former resident of Toledo is in a nursing home in Florida. She has been in one since December after a stroke, it does not appear she can live without the feeding tube. A temporary restraining order was in place in March to prevent the feeding tube from being removed. Karen Weber’s husband Raymond and their three adult children are in support of Raymond Weber being appointed permanent guardian and in support of having the feeding tube removed.

When do sexual affairs matter and does who is pointing the finger matter too?

The recent Jim Hartung story as broken by the Toledo Free Press once again brings us back to some of the very same questions we dealt with during the formerly dubbed “Pajama Gate” scandal revolving around Marc Dann and the continual question of selectivity as to who’s past matters and who gets a free skate.

Concerts at Erie Street Market and that nagging selective history question again…

First what appears to be good news, Erie Street Market draws encore as concert venue and the City is expecting to earn $10,000 to $15,000 per event. The interesting side part of the article has my selective history warning bells going off again:
