Father of accused 17 year old shooter talks to WTOL

Tagged:  •    •    •

Since we focused on this story and the topic of curfew violation I wanted to share this link where the father of the 17 year old accused of killing 15 year old Antonyo Phillips not only talked to WTOL but is a minister:

The same week Herman McCardell saw his 17-year-old son Deshawn in cuffs, in court and facing a murder charge, this local pastor is spreading the message that something needs to be done.

Another shooting, another case of teenagers out after curfew…

Last night after 2:00 a.m. in the morning a 15 year old was shot and killed, he was shot by a 17 year old. Both boys lived approximately .2 miles from each other, both boys were out past the curfew that exists in the City of Toledo. The 17 year old had a midnight curfew according to the law, the 15 year old had an 11:00 p.m. curfew according to the law. On December 14th, a 16 year old was shot and killed a few minutes after midnight not far from where I live.

If you steal baby Jesus…do you go to hell?

I was watching Fox Toledo and I heard another story about someone or more than someone stealing a baby Jesus from a Christmas display. St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral in West Toledo is the most recent victim of this baby Jesus stealing crime spree.

Elderly couple ordered to paint home or loose coverage

Tagged:  •    •

I recommend reading and watching the story on Fox Toledo. The basics, the house does need to be painted, the couple can not afford to paint it and there’s concern of how they would even be able to paint it within the four month time frame they were given by Encompass Insurance.

What will the plea deal be in McConnell Hancock case?

Tagged:  •    •    •

This weekend I was told that Karyn McConnell Hancock was going to plead guilty on Monday and that this was part of some type of a plea deal. Which is how our legal system works, people either agree to plead guilty or no contest based on deals on a regular basis. Yesterday she did plead guilty and while the media is reporting she could serve up to 8 years in jail, the real speculation will be on will any time in jail be given at all.

Husband and three adult children want feeding tube removed, sister and mother do not…

In a case that is being described as similar to Terri Schiavo, but with a Toledo connection, Karen Weber a former resident of Toledo is in a nursing home in Florida. She has been in one since December after a stroke, it does not appear she can live without the feeding tube. A temporary restraining order was in place in March to prevent the feeding tube from being removed. Karen Weber’s husband Raymond and their three adult children are in support of Raymond Weber being appointed permanent guardian and in support of having the feeding tube removed.

Woman says she was fondled by Police officer…

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

While the story that the Toledo Journal is reporting could very well be true where a woman, Sharonda N. Simpson, reported she was fondled twice by a patrol officer during an early morning traffic stop in a remote area around 3 a.m. on Aug. 14 and she admits in the article that she did have a metal grinder with marijuana residue in it, according to public records, she did not appear in Court on the 15th or on the 25th. Now she has warrants out for her arrest.

Children yelled out window for help for 7 hours before police came…

Tagged:  •    •    •

Stories like this one as reported by WTVG from Bowling Green, really make you think. Three young children aged four, three, and one start yelling out of the window for help at around 8:30 a.m. according to neighbors. Yet, apparently none of them called the police until late in the afternoon, police arrived at 3:30 p.m.:

Then we ask why…as we try to make sense of another senseless death…

I appear most times here to be calm, cool, collected, with a hint of emotion that wells up from time to time on an issue I am particularly passionate about. When it comes to blogging about victims, it’s much more difficult to do than the end result here demonstrates, in 2006 the story of Tammy Capelletty made me realize that there are victims out there who need to be blogged about. More than just to create discussion but for families like her family who were trying to clear her name, to make sure it was known that she was a victim, a victim of a senseless murder.

Fireworks suspected as cause of more than 100 being homeless…

I found out about the fire early this morning because one of my daughters lives near enough that at one point they were told to evacuate, she called me early this morning to let me know what was happening and that they might be heading over to my home. The media reporting on the fire has suggested that fireworks is the cause of the what the Blade said 11 buildings and 5 million dollars damage.

Former Title Department bookkeeper indicted for theft of over $100,000

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I suppose the good news in the situation is that the Lucas County Clerk of Courts office has changed some of their internal controls to prevent a similar situation from happening in the future, however it can’t helped be wondered how the theft of that much money went un-noticed. Tina Suzanne Lake must have as the bookkeeper had very little supervisory checks and balances in place to have been able to steal that much money during the course of a few year time period.

Ohio Supreme Court “if they only had a heart”

Tagged:  •    •    •

I was tempted to say “if they only had a brain” but there really is no humor in this story, especially for the family of Christopher Albrecht.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Family members don’t have a right to a relative’s brain, heart and other body parts removed by a coroner for forensic testing, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Four people were arrested Wednesday night and accused of pointing a green laser beam at two passenger planes attempting to land at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

A man was murdered recently, he was 61 years old, a father, a grandfather and appeared to be not only well liked but loved by his family as well as being a primary support system for one of his children who is a single parent. For some reason a conviction that he had from 1990 that appears to have no bearing at all on his murder was included in the write up about his being stabbed and later dying at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
