Library Village to Benefit From Columbia Gas of Ohio’s $2 Billion Pipeline Improvement Program
$8.1 Million Project First of $15 Million Slated for 2009
Natural gas service in Toledo’s Library Village Community will benefit from Columbia Gas of Ohio’s pipeline improvement program.
Approximately 72,500 feet of natural gas main line will be replaced starting January 2009. The $8.1 million project will upgrade existing steel pipe with plastic pipe. The project should take approximately 12 months to complete.

The West Toledo project includes 41 streets and is bound by Sylvania, Garden Park, Crestwood and Eastway. Approximately 2,331 customers will be impacted.
Columbia Gas officials will be holding several public meetings to discuss the project and answer any questions at the West Toledo Branch Library, 1320 Sylvania Avenue on Monday, December 1st at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, December 2nd at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The work will require a temporary interruption of natural gas service. Customers impacted will be contacted via letter in advance of the scheduled work. Columbia Gas will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule re-light appointments.
In addition, approximately 2,000 customers will also have their indoor meters moved to the outside of the house. This work will be done at no direct cost to the customer.
As a reminder, all Columbia employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name, photograph and identification number and will be happy to show them.
This project is the first of five major projects in Toledo scheduled for 2009. Columbia Gas will replace and upgrade approximately 36 miles of pipeline and invest $15 million, creating a state of the art natural gas delivery system that will directly benefit 3,400 Toledo residences.
Projects slated for 2009 also include the Ledyard & Douglas, Walnut and Crane and Buckeye and Erie areas. Additional improvement projects are being scheduled for 2010.
Columbia is investing billions of dollars in capital projects across Ohio to improve the safety and reliability of its pipeline system, including nearly $2 billion over the next 25 years to improve its 19,000 mile underground pipeline system. The work will also ensure customer access to adequate supplies of natural gas, a domestically abundant, safe and environmentally responsible solution to our nation’s energy needs today and tomorrow. In addition to creating hundreds of jobs in local communities, this work will result in a modern energy system helping keep Ohio business and industry globally competitive.
