Tom Troy could have extended his label of Most incumbents in region facing token opposition to more than Kaptur, Latta and Jordan, which makes for an election season here that’s been unlike any other that I’ve covered since the blog began.
Which to me means that I think two candidates deserve a few kudos for despite the known odds, they are still out there campaigning hard and not getting much support from their political parties. They are not acting as if “token opposition” would…
The Blade stated Carolyn Eyre was a:
…well-meaning perennial candidate with a long history of service to her party and her community. She was an aide to the late Rep. John Garcia. We do not think, however, that she will be able to bring home the proverbial bacon as effectively as Ms. Brown
Eyre has been all over, at Tent City on Friday night and again on Sunday morning, putting in well over two hours of helping to serve breakfast, then heading out to do more door to door. In addition to her campaigning, she told me that the Bible Temple Worship Center is opening the “Bridge to Hope Coffee House” on the corner of Collingwood and Delaware. The scheduled open date is November 3rd, with the hours of operation being 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a variety of services planned for residents of that neighborhood, young and old.
Then Jackie Brown, who is going up against Mark Wagoner, not many people would agree to be a candidate as late in the election season as she did, stepping in because someone else decided they did not want to run. Her campaign has taken some heat from a few on the blog, and a low blow at a staffer that I think was uncalled for, but I admire her spirit. She’s been out there every day without the dollar amount of support from the Democratic Party that others have received. As a mom of five myself, I know what kind of family support and dedication it takes to do what she is attempting in the Ohio Senate 2 District.
Both Eyre & Brown could have just decided to stay home, they could have decided to not even work to get their names on the ballot and they could have definitely not put the amount of personal sacrifice that they have in each of their “David versus Goliath” scenarios. All too often many of us complain about how we don’t like the way things are, these two? Are walking the walk…
