Math is not my strong point but I can do simple addition and there is a problem with the poll numbers when you look at the data, the latest numbers add up to 101% while the headline reads, Obama closing in on McCain’s lead in Ohio with this part standing out to me:
The first poll, conducted Sept. 12-16, showed Mr. McCain leading Mr. Obama 48 percent to 42 percent, with 5 percent of the respondents saying they’d vote for independent Ralph Nader or Libertarian Bob Barr, and 5 percent undecided.
The new poll found Mr. McCain’s lead down to 48-46.
What is not reported is where it appears the 2% gain came from - 1% say they will vote for Barr, 2% for Nader, 1% saying other and 3% saying they don’t know, that equals a total of 4% compared to 5% the last time and 2% less undecided. Apparently no one has noticed that 48 + 46 + 1+ 2 + 1 + 3 doesn’t equal 100 percent, that’s 101 percent…McCain’s number did not change, what changed was less of those polled were undecided and less were voting for a third party candidate…See for yourself how it doesn’t add up. Where does the additional 1% come from? The earlier poll added up to 100 and the screenshot from that is below as well. So, what’s going on here?
I’ve also screenprinted the shot from the multimedia that the Blade is sharing, from the Enquirer that gives even less detail but still doesn’t add up - 48 + 46 + 7 equals…101%.
