Wagoner Selected to Serve as New Majority Whip by Ohio Senate Republican Caucus in the 128th General Assembly
Columbus – Ohio Senate President Bill Harris (R-Ashland) today announced that State Senator Mark Wagoner (R-Toledo) has been selected by his fellow Republican Senators to serve as the Ohio Senate’s next Majority Whip for the 128th General Assembly, which convenes in January.

“In the time that Senator Wagoner has been part of the State Senate, he has proven himself as someone who can, in a bipartisan fashion, bring differing views and opinions together to achieve a common goal the benefits all Ohioans,” Harris said. “Senator Wagoner is well equipped to meet the challenges of this leadership position and he will continue to be a strong advocate for the needs of his constituents in the 2nd Senate District.”
Prior to joining the State Senate earlier this year, Senator Wagoner served as the State Representative for the 46th Ohio House District. During his time in the Ohio House, Wagoner sponsored the bill that led to the merger of the University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio and has supported efforts to make higher education more affordable for all Ohioans through the recent tuition freeze and increased investment in state-sponsored scholarships and grants. Wagoner has also pushed for strategic investments in high-tech research and development, which will lead to new industries and job opportunities for Northwest Ohioans, including a more than $18 million project to boost the alternative energy industry in the region.
“I am both honored and humbled by the display of confidence my peers have shown in selecting me as the next Majority Whip,” Wagoner said. “Ohio is facing difficult times, but I am committed to working with all members of the Ohio Senate to ensure that our state’s future is bright and promising.”
Senator Wagoner’s selection as Majority Whip will be formalized in January when the 128th General Assembly convenes.
