Friends help a Toledo man with deadly infection

Friends and family of a south Toledo man are going the extra mile for him. James Honeycutt was infected with a deadly MRSA infection a year ago and it has left him paralyzed in one leg and he has had to undergo several surgeries. His friends put together a silent auction to help him pay for his medical expenses.

Honeycutt tells NBC 24, "don't give up, don't give up the faith no matter how hard it is." You can donate to the James Honeycutt Benefit Fund at any Huntington Bank.

Putnam man dead in house fire

One man is dead after a house fire in Putnam County overnight. Investigators say they found 20-year-old Michael Pollock, dead in a ground level bedroom at the home on State Route 189.

Pollock was the only person in the home when the fire started. Fire experts think the blaze started in the kitchen and don't suspect foul play.

Walking for kids

Shenikwa Stratford, David Custer and Michael Schlesinger strapped on their running shoes for the walk. The same walk took place in 14 other cities across the country raising money for research to fight childhood illness.

The mother of a Michigan teenager who fatally poisoned her grandmother with morphine has been charged in the unrelated slaying of a Kentucky man.

Thirty-three-year-old Tina Adkins and two others are charged with complicity to murder in the death of 38-year-old Gregory Allen Shepherd. Authorities say the three led police to his body Tuesday in a field in Kentucky's Knott County.
The Daily Telegram of Adrian reports Adkins is the mother of 16-year-old Kristina Adkins, who was sentenced last month as an adult to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 20 years.

General Motors Corp.'s board of directors does not consider bankruptcy protection a viable option to solve the company's financial troubles.

Carmakers' crisis deepens Detroit's despair

It's not just the future of U.S. automakers on the line as the Detroit Three plead for federal loans they say are key to their survival.

The city already is among the nation's leaders in unemployment and home foreclosures.

Consumers a reluctant bunch at LA Auto Show

The crowds at the show are a reluctant bunch this year. Anxious about the economy, the future of the Detroit Three automakers and the unpredictability of gas prices, few said they had any intention of buying a new car anytime soon. Those who did said they were either downsizing or looking for something with top-notch gas mileage. Nearly all had major reservations about a bailout of the U.S. auto industry.
